NF is the code name for the French standard, which came into force in 1938. Its governing body is the French institute for standardization (AFNOR). France prepares a revised standard system plan every three years and adjusts it once a year. The French standardization association directs the technical work of the 17 large standardization planning groups (GPN) and coordinates their work with the planning committee (COP). Each planning group is guided by a strategic strategy committee (COS), which brings together policy makers from the relevant economic sectors.
